Granite FAQ's
|
Q: How long will granite last?
A: Your new countertops will last forever. Granite is already
almost a million years old when it is quarried from the earth.
|
Q: Do I have to use special, expensive cleaners?
A: No, the best way to clean your granite is with very mild dish
soap. If by chance a water trail is left, just go over it with a
dry cloth.
|
Q: How often does granite need to be sealed and how
difficult is it to seal it?
A: Granite needs to be sealed once a year. To seal granite, pour
the sealer on a soft cloth and wipe the counter enough so that
the sealer beads. Lightly buff the countertop with a dry cloth.
|
Q: Is granite porous?
A: No, the granite we sell has been polished, which creates a
barrier and makes the countertop virtually impenetrable.
|
Q: Will granite scratch or burn?
A: No, granite can be cut on with a sharp knife and still not
scratch and can have a hot pan directly from the oven placed on
it without burning or cracking.
|
Q: How well is granite rated for cleanup after food
preparation?
A: Granite was rated number one for the cleanup of bacteria by
the Marble Institute of America
|
Q: Does granite need to be polished with a sander every
year?
A: No, the shine of the granite is the natural sheen and does
not need to be sanded.
|
Q: Where does granite come from?
A: Granite is quarried all over the world. However, most of the
granite that is imported to the United States is from India,
Brazil, Italy and China.
|
Q: How thick is the granite used for countertops?
A: The granite we use is 1 ¼ inches thick. Other granite
fabricators will use ¾ inch thick and laminate it up. We find
this to be expensive and time consuming, which does not produce
a better-looking product.
